LG GSA-4163B, will someone please help me...?

Hello, new to the forum, great site by the way…

I am using a LG GSA-4163B with updated firmware to A106. First time using this burner for double layer discs. Any who, here is the MID info for the discs :

Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R DL] - [DVD+R DL]
Manufacturer Name : [Ritek Corp.]
Manufacturer ID : [RITEK]
Media Type ID : [S04]
Product Revision : [066]
Blank Disc Capacity : [Not Supported By Method 2]
Recording Speeds : [2.4x , 3.3x-8x]
[Method 2 Might Not Always Detect All Speeds]

I was attempting to burn with ImgBurn at 2.4x when I received a Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Failed error. Below is the log:

My question is, is it the discs? or is it the burner?

Welcome to the forum!

Nice drive, possibly my favourite burner ever

Now for the not-so-good stuff. As those are 8x DL discs, the drive’s firmware most likely has not support for the mediacode (also referred to as MID - manufacturer ID), and so is using a “default” writing strategy, in this case, 2.4x.

Added to that is that these aren’t the best to be using, especially with that drive. It likes the good stuff, or at least my own 4163B (and each LG I’ve owned since!) did.

I would suggest trying some Verbatim 2.4x +R DLs, and see how you get on.

Awesome, picked up a 50 stack of verbs… appreciate the response… everythings good to go now

You’re welcome…happy burning!
