LG GMA 4080N speed recognition problem

hello, i have the LG 4080N Burner on my laptop, and it has a problem of recognizing the correct burning speed, instead of X8 (as this drive is capable of) for the X16 disc, it recognize it as X2.
anyone encountered this problem before?
(i already tried FW update from 0c09 to 0c12)

Possibly the firmware doesn’t recognise that media, so it’s giving it a “default” strategy.

Even though the drive is an 8x one, doesn’t mean that even the latest firmware will include support for a 16x disc.

you can check if your firmware supports this media using MCSE.

thanks for the replies.
Well, i did burn by X8 with similar media (+R).
MCSE - Media Code Speed Edit?
if so, i didn’t understand i how use this piece of software.

run it, load the firmware jupdate file for the firmware you’re interested in (right now- the firmware you already have in your drive), and export the list of media codes, it will create a text file with each MID listed with the speed the firmware supports.

ok, got it.
wierd enough, this media code is listed in the list of media code supported for this drive. (but as X4 and X8 not X2)
what can i do?

i must add, i have another DVD cake, from fuji, TY Media code, which does recognized as X8.
i’m kinda lost here.

i don’t understand exactly what the problem is.
it’s Verbatim MCC 03RG20, and you say it is recognized as 8x media. fine, that’s what your drive can do. what’s the problem ???

can you post a Nero InfoTool screenshot, or preferably Log ?

Nonono, it is recognized as X2, when in the firmware this media code is X4 and X8.

This is not true, check again.
Your burner is old, the media is newish.
MCC 03RG20 is of course not the complete mediacode, and only that counts.

this media code is definatly in the list,
MCC 03RG20 8x,4x
isn’t it the same Media code as the Media itselft i posted in my first post?

look at the file attached.

0C12RPC1_speedsettings.txt (6.31 KB)

is noone familier with a similar case?

strange.
maybe it’s fake Verbatim media ?
can you post the serial number and stamper code that are on the disc near the hub ?

maybe just a bad batch. did you try another disc from the same pack ? or do you have another pack of the same media ?

my nec 3500 recognize them fine.
those are all the discs from the spindle, i can’t read the serial, those are photo prntable DVD-R X16

weird.
did you try flashing the drive again to the same firmware ?

no actually, but the prev FW did not recognize that DVD-R’s well as well.
but, i’ll try it.

is the old firmware supposed to recognize the media (according to MCSE)?
anyway i don’t think reflashing to the new firmware again (it if works at all) can hurt.

i don’t have the old firmware, but it happends there also. (with the +R i had no problem)
i reflashed, still, same problem.

well, roi, what can i say ?
i’m at my rope’s end.
i can only suggest you try other media. other than that i would think it’s hardware fault.

i hope some of the resident gurus drop into this thread maybe they can help.

well, thanks, anyway i’m switching to TY which works perferctly. (fugi made in japan)
lately Verbatim is starting to make thier blanks not good as before.
