LG GH22 LS40 SATA dvd writer in APEC enclosure doesn't work

Just bought a new LG GH22 LS40 dvd writer and placed it in an APEC SATA USB 2.0 enclosure. Planned to use it as an external dvd writer for my laptop. My problem is when i try to burn on dvd the process only gets to 1%. While burning i noticed that the animated graphics on nero ( the one that the file flies to the disc) got really slow the the dvd is ejected and an error from nero syays “device not available”.

Could anyone pls help. I thought everything would be ok because i bought a SATA drive and a SATA enclosure.

Just tried it out on my desktop running on windows XP and it worked!!! My laptop is running on vista. Can someone help me tweak my laptop? An acer 4520G turion64x2.

It’s probably only the problem of your enclosure. Most SATA/USB bridges use JMicron as bridgechip which is known for compatibility issues with burners. It is much easier to get an IDE burner working in an external enclosure and because IDE burners have no disadvantages in this szenario, to me it makes not so much sense to use a SATA drive.

In hindsight it would have been problem free to have bought an IDE writer than a SATA. But could anyone pls help me out? Are there any settings to make it work?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Plug your laptop into a power outlet. Set the power settings on your laptop to PRESENTATION. Then try another burn.

no wonder i tried so many brand sata burner also failure.
