As mentioned, I have a LG GH20LS10 sata DVD-supermulti drive, which I have recently purchased when building a new system.
The problem is, sometimes I boot into WinXP and the drive is recognised (available on My Computer) and other times not (most of the times not). I have a feeling this is a software problem but I do not seem to be able to strike on it. Around the same time that I built the system I upgraded to SP3, the HDD (also SATA) was in the old system and so suspecting that the IDE/ATA driver in WinXP might be conflicting, I uninstalled them and let them reinstall on boot-up but no success. Seems to install primary and secondary ide controllers and sata controllers.
Setting in Bios seem in order, have disabled all the IDE channels (MB is intel DG31PR) and have tried various other combinations to see if perhaps I had missed somethign in bios settings.
On the one occassion that drive was visible I flashed from FL00 to FL01 but I don't believe this would have helped (it was more of a media upgrade) and the problem remains.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or even referral to similar threads.
