LG GDR8162B not reading DVD+RW?

I have a LG GDR8162B DVD-ROM that I normally don’t have any problems with, but today I tried reading a couple of DVD+RW discs with no success. Discinfo says DVD+RW is supported. I’m on the factory 0015 firmware. What could be the problem?

Thanks
Mike

Hi,

your drive must not necessarily support all discs. Perhaps these are poor discs and the burn process was bad either, so these discs are unreadable in your drive.

Michael

Thanks Michael,

The disks are Verbatim 4x DVD+RW and were burned at 2x speed by a Samsung SH-S203B. Does this tell us anything?

Btw, when popping the disks into the LG drive, it doesn’t notice them, saying there is no disk in the drive when trying to list the drive contents. Is this the expected behaviour with an unreadable disk?

Btw, is there anywhere one can see the features of different firmware versions? (I’ve searched LG’s support site but don’t find the GDR8162B)

Okay. Verbatims are not that bad, and the Samsung should handle them well.
Perhaps your drive has problems with the reflectivity of the Verbies.

Michael
