I have only checked 2x Verbatim can burn at 8x. 4x Verbatim, TDK can burn at 8x.

Very good. The overspeed capability of 2x and 4x media is the major reason to don’t buy the BDR-205.

Waiting for more tests and quality scans … :slight_smile:

BH12NS/LS30 … interesting …

I wonder what the differences are in respect to the BH10NS/LS30 … Are they using a different Renesas chipset or the same Renesas chipset as the BH10NS/LS30 & BDR-205 … and if its the same chipset then are there any HW differences between the 10x and 12x drives (different OPU maybe?)…

Yes, 2x BD-R overspeeding is indeed a BDR-205 drawback, but knowing LG’s recent 6x and 8x Blu-Ray burner history, I need to be convinced that they can match Pioneer’s burn quality on any other media than Verbatim … it would be nice to have a side by side comparison of the two …

why? bdr-205 also overspeeds, to 8-10-12 depending on media.

You can find it out here. Overspeed burning for 2x media is not available with bdr-205.

Hi guys,

Further to what cvs is talking about, I have a new Buffalo BR-X816U2-EU, purchased in the UK, which is the internal LG BH10NS30, with Renesas chipset I believe. I desperately want to cross-flash the firmware to a more stable behaving drive (firstly, in terms of writing stability for all blu-ray blank media, and secondly in terms of better reading stability at a stable speed and after that a better reading speed).

The firmwares I am interested in are these below:
Pioneer BDR-205 v1.08
NEC BH30N v1.03
Dell BH30N vA1.03
or
BH12NS/LS30

Luckily, although trying a few things to flash, nothing has been written at all to my drive yet. I looked to see if MCSE could patch the NEC or Dell firmwares above and it came up with ??? in the “Cross flash settings / select current drive ID” box and so I thought it is definitely not safe to proceed (if possible). The BDR-205 FW came up with “allow same to same flashing” and I patched the FW, but upon running this it could not find a compatible drive.

I was wondering if someone who has the knowledge could:

  1. Advise me if flashing to one of the drives I’m interested in is possible, please?
  2. If yes, which ones, please?
  3. If no, which other ones would be possible, based upon wanting the most stable writing on all media, please?
  4. Please advise of the best drive I could cross-flash to and why.
  5. Please tell me how to do it.
