LG BH08LS20K (BD-Writer) low buffer levels

Not sure exactly which section of the forum this should go, so if mods feel free to move it, by all means do so.

I recently purhcased the LG BH08LS20K 8x Blu-Ray Writer/DVD Writer (FW version 1.00) and have been noticing very slow DVD burning speeds, even at 16x, when using Nero 8 Lite. DVD media are 16x Verbatim’s (MCC 004, if that helps, listed from Nero DiscSpeed). I didn’t really notice it at first, since when I’m writing to disc, I usually step away from the computer.

However, while I notice “Time Remaining” is usually relatively normal and low (~ 4-5 min’s to burn a 4.5GB DVD at 16x), the “Verifying Data” process takes a whopping extra 8-12 min’s, bringing final burn times to 15+ min’s! To boot, the "Buffer Level" never reached above 4%!!!

My previous DVD burners had DVD write times + verification done in about 5-6 min’s total, w/ buffer levels within the 99% - 100% range. And while the DVD movies I usually backup seem to be read perfectly normal in my DVD player, I have no idea if this low buffer level affects long-term disc quality (i.e. if it’ll be a coaster within a month or so). It should also be noted that I have no Blu-Ray or DVD movie playback errors on my computer w/ PowerDVD.

I’ve never had this problem before, so I’m not even sure where to start. I did a Google on the problem, but seems most of these low buffer levels were related to old IDE DVD burners, w/ no reported problems on Blu-Ray burners, much less the LG BH08LS20. I’ve tried uninstalling Nero 8 Lite, and upgrading to Nero 9 Lite, and the low buffer levels and slow verification problem persists. I also checked the status of my drive under Device Manager and it does say under “Device Status:”

Windows did not start a related device driver. To learn more, click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details.

Again I ran a google and forums search to much, much older irrelevant posts. So if anyone has any idea what’s going on and how to fix this problem - before considering updating my firmware (which I’ve always ran into very bad luck w/ in the past) - I would appreciate it!

Update: Burned a few movies and they all had skipping problems :frowning: I forgot I had AnyDVD installed. So I uninstalled that. I also re-installed Nero 9; uninstalled, then re-installed the BD-Writer from Device Manager; also, I uninstalled most IDE/SATA devices listed under IDE/ATA controllers.

All results in low buffer level. However, I did notice as of recent that even tho the buffer levels remain 4%, the final verification process was speedy as was when I was using my Optiarc drive.

Here’s a recent log from nero if anyone has any idea what this may mean for me:
