LG 4166B DVD+R DL Burning Speed problem

Hello guys,

i just got an short question. I want to burn an DVD Double layer ISO. I got the LG 4166B burner and Philips DVD+R DL discs which can be burned at 2.4x but nero only allows me to burn them at 4x. How is that possible? I dont want to destroy the disc or burn it too fast cause its an navigation dvd… what do you guys suggest?

How comes nero only let me burn at 4x? Do i have to update the firmware of the device? Current firmware is: 1.01

many thanks, christian

I just burned this DVD+R DL at a speed of 4x even though on the case it says 2.4x certified speed… why is nero only allowing me to burn at 4x this disc? I tested the disc in my navigation unit and it wont work… it was an iso which should 100% work but it doesnt. What goes wrong? Arent the philips disc good? Or is it because it got burned too fast?

Im just trying an intenso 2.4x DVD+R DL this disc was detected at 2.4x as it should… very strange huh?

Because the Philips DL media is only supported at max 4x!
And the Intenso are surely cheap and sucky Ritek DL… :Z

The only choice for DL media should be Verbatim.

i just burned the intenso disc at 2.4x and it works well in my navigation… but why doesnt the philips disc work? I thought philips is also an good choice… why cant nero burn these discs at 2.4x ? Should i use another program? Which would you recommend? I heard dvd decrypter is good.

I get 6X burns out of Verbatim 2.4X DL disks

Bob

i didnt ask what you get out of the disks… the problem is that nero is only letting me burn these discs at 4x nut slower… and thats why they wont work in my navigation unit then. (At least i think so)

Phillips doesn’t make media, they re-sell other media. You need to post the media code. Use DVD Identifier.

If the disc was supported at 4x, that shouldn’t be a problem, this isn’t such a great difference. Did you set the booktype to DVD-ROM before burning? It is recognized by more players. With my 4167B, it must be set everytime I reboot (although alexnoe has a terrific, small command line that will reset it when you boot). For the record, I second Chef, Verbatim is the only DL worth spending money on, although I haven’t seen the Ricoh DL media around here yet. Stay away from all the rest.

well i got this working with the intenso dvd so i just think philips is not worth to buy.

Another question: I need to backup my VW Teleatlas DVD for europe. I tryed to burn this disc many times but it doesnt work in the navigation… the nav system detects already after 2 seconds that the disc inserted is wrong!! I tryed to copy this disc with DVD Decrypter and Nero… first i saved the disc on my hd at 16x reading speed then i burned it at 2x (but nero automatically set it to 4x) to an Platinum DVD+R medium with DVD-ROM option. is that booktype correct?

What else could you suggest? How could i copy this disc? i already wasted 4 dvd’s.

These are the details about the original DVD i want to backup:

This is no DL mid…

yes i know this is an normal DVD+R. My first problem with the Audi DVD has been solved… the philips dvd+r dl was the problem. Now i want to backup the VW Teleatlas European DVD but this disc wont work in the navigation for some strange reason… i already wasted so many discs… do you have any suggestions? What informations could i give you about the dvd so you could tell me how i can copy it?

Afaik the “strange reason” is that most navigation units check whether you are using an original CD/DVD or a copy.
Copies are rejeced by most devices.

Sascha

i dont think this is the reason cause i heard from somebody he had copied this disc with success… what kind of informations could i give you about this original dvd so you could tell me some things i could try to copy this disc??? I just want to try everything before i give up… i just bought some Verbatim DVD-R and Verbatim DVD+R i think they should be good to test.

Whats the best burning program to use? Cause nero only allowed me to read this dvd at 16x i think this is too fast… nero also burned this disc at 4x even though i selected 2x. You guys have any idea why this happens?

I’m a little confused here : the VW Teleatlas DVD for europe disc you are trying to backup, is it a double layered disc or not? If it is a DL disc, why are you buying Verbatim SL discs?

this is not a DL disc!!! I wrote all details about this disc above… size is only about 4GB and its DVD-ROM.

Are you certain that your nav unit can read all types of recordable discs? We see lots of reports of issues with these nav units, many do not read recordables, or are very picky.

Do you think SaBoCD wanted to fool you?
It is only true what he told you about Navigation discs and their copy protections…

First you asked about DL media, now you are talking about SL. Huh?!
