LG 4082B Firmware Upgrade Advice

posted 0 minutes ago
Hi, Im wanting to upgrade the firmware for my optical drive to A206. One of the specific instructions on LG’s Site is that the DVD Drive must be the secondary Master with no other device installed on the same IDE. Now my dilemma is what do I do with my DVD Rom.

“1. Connect the drive as ¡°master¡± by it self, on the secondary IDE controller
with no other device on the same IDE cable, making note to set the jumper
on the back of the drive to the ¡°master¡± position.
2. Download the file GSA-4082A206(EW).ZIP to a folder of your choice.
This download includes this “Read me(ew)” text file, as well as the GSA4082A206.EXE program,
which will auto-update your drive¡¯s firmware.
3. Close all other programs including: screen saver, antivirus and/or power-down programs.
(If these programs are not closed, they will try to engage the PC, during the update process,
thus interrupting the update and damaging the drive).
4. Check the drive to ensure that there is no disk in the tray
before you start the update procedure.”

I dont really want to make it my Hard Drives slave.

Perhaps I need to meet these requirements only to upgrade the firmware then I can make my DVD Rom slave to the DVD RW, not sure.

Is making the DVD Rom slave to my Hard Drive my only option?

Much appreceiated.

You will only need to have the 4082 as a solo master during the upgrade - it ensures that there will be no interuption to the data flow.
Thus the reason to close all other programmes.

I never cared much about such restrictions but then I don’t offer warranty on any drive. That’s why many have read your question but most are not answering.
