Hi all. Well, I have an interesting question. I've spent the last several days banging my head on against the wall trying to figure out my Lite-on LDW-451S and compatibility issues with it. I'm using Memorex 4x DVD-R discs to burn. I've been using various programs to attempt successful DVD Backups. The software includes:
Here's the situation. I've tried using Decrypting a couple movies I own to test backing up (When you get new toys you have to play right?) a couple of movies I own in my collection - namely: Looney Tunes: Back In Action, Undercover Brother and The Rundown - and then using DVD Shrink to compress the entire movie and burning it off with CloneDVD2 or Nero 188.8.131.52. I've also tried just doing the rip from decrypted VoB files to CloneDVD2 and letting it handling the compression.
Here is the situation. The firmware is the latest firmware available from Lite-On for the LDW-451S. I always tried playing the movie in my stand-alone player (Zenith Allegro AVB341 DVD/VHS combo) first - the results were very sub-par. Most movies would not load and if they did there would be severe stuttering. However, one thing I finally discovered and tried tonight is that I plugged those same discs into my XBox and they played without flaw. Is this a flaw of the stand-alone player not being able to play certain media types (perhaps Ritek, TDK, or potentially Maxell?) might work better in this player or is it just something I have to live with that the backups will need to be played in the XBox? It's nice being able to play backups since you don't have to worry about damaging the precious originals that you hate to replace that have been part of your movie collection for awhile.
Thanks for any helps or suggestions you might have. I have been doing a good bit of research on this drive on this forum - even trying to flash the drive up to LDW-851S to see if it would improve compatibility and for some reason I seemed to get quite a few DVD's when they got to lead-out would either crash the burner/software or fail the burn.
I have the DVD-Burner on Secondary Master of the IDE Channel with a Lite-On DVD-Rom drive being Secondary Slave. I have also tried uninstalling my VIA Drivers and no avail. I have Windows XP Professional running and both DVD Drivers (Burner and Rom drive) are set to using Multi-Word DMA2 - I've read various things about being set to UltraDMA but I'm assuming that Multi-Word DMA 2 is fine. System specs:
MSI K7T-Turbo (Yes I know old motherboard!) KT-133A Chipset
512 megs of PC133 SDRAM
GeforceFX5200 128 meg video card
Lite-On LDW451S DVD-Burner
LIte-On DVD-Rom drive
2 Seagate 40 gig hard drives.
Thanks for all your help and all the helpeful information on this forum. I hope I have posted to the right place as I think I have.
