L.A. emergency 911 overwhelmed with Facebook outage calls

During the one hour out of Facebook last Friday, the Los Angeles emergency services got so overwhelmed with calls that one of their officials tweeted #Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don’t call us about it being down, we don’t know when FB will be back up!”

It gives an idea of just how obsessed some are with Facebook to call 911 when there is an outage, in belief that the emergency services can restore it.

The hashtag #facebookdown trended heavily at the time.

OK I think I’ll quote myself from another thread.

Gives new meaning to the line “Get unplug and get a reality check”… People are so stuck on the net this is what I figure would happen they can’t distinguish between online and the real world right in front of their nose. People need to Get Unplug and go outside and talk to a live person and do some real interactions.
