This seems all messed up to me

First here is the media info (problem is the same with all media types and discs though).

All scans is done with an LTC-48161H at 2X CLV.

Normal scan: 1ECC, Realtime chart ENABLED.

This one is also set to 1ECC but realtime chart is DISABLED.

This one is set to 8ECC, realime chart ENABLED or DISABLED do not make a hige difference here.

Any thoughts?

The only result that looks ok to me is the first one (1ECC with realtime chart enabled).

Also while scanning different discs at 1ECC with realtime chart enabled gives different results curves etc just like there should be but with realtime chart disabled or ECC set to anything else than 8 the amount of errors is about straight from the beginning to the end.

Any thoughts? Hopefully I’ll get a LDW-411S from Lite-On in 2-3 weeks or so for review…then I could test this behaviour on that drive as well.

For now it seems like I should only do my scans at 1ECC with realtime chart enabled.

A little birdie used to say that you should always scan with real time chart disabled, cause it uses processor time and produces inaccurate results.
Does this drive actually respond to the read speed commands?
The speed indicator should be accurate during the scan, does it indicate 2x?
Never seen anything like that, even on DVD-ROM drive.

Yes it actually reads at 2X CLV (only setting possible beside max 8X).

set to 1 or 2X = get 2X CLV

set to 3X or more = get 8X CAV.

ive noticed at times scanning the same disc with the same settings gets very different results… other times they look very alike…

I would question the “good” results too, as they are far lower than expected. (though maybe not for 2x reading). Maybe you are falling off the fence on the question of whether to scan with ROM drives? What do you get at 8x?

I don’t think the result is far better than it should be though.

Here is for example two bad discs, scanned at 2X, 1ECC and realtime chart enabled:

AN31 4X DVD-R:

MEDIA ID001 4X DVD+R:

I’ll post 8X CAV scans from both LTD-165 and the LTC-48161H later…

Now you may all see why I’ve not been active in the DVD-media test forum in the past, issues…as you see :frowning:
