Kprobe 2 : To ASPI or SPTI?

vbimport

Hi there

Sorry for the noobie type question, but I would like to know which driver i should be using when examining burned DVD’s in Kprobe (2.4.2)? I have installed ASPI layer 4.6 on WinXP (inc updates etc) but when i go to change the driver to ASPI in KProbe my DVD-burner is not recognised and all i get in the ‘drop down’ menu bar is something like “0-0-0-1” ?

Any ideas?

I can run the program fine when i select SPTI, but i thought that ASPI should be used?

I’m running a brand new (KS04) Liteon 1693S.

Thanks!

FoX

Either your aspi layer is corrupted, or your computer is based on an NVIDIA chipset.
I don’t use the aspi layer cause it was messing up Kprobe, booktype… on my nvidia based computer. If you still want to use the aspi layer and you have an nvidia based computer, than uninstall your nvidia IDE driver, restart your computer. The regular MS ide driver will then be installed automaticaly. You will then be able to use the aspi layer.
You have to make a choice between the aspi layer and the lastet Nvidia ide driver!!!

Hi there

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I am running an Nvidia driver on an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo. Is there any benefit to removing this nvidia IDE driver and using the ASPI layer? If there isnt i will leave it where it is

What i am looking for is to be able to scan and complete dvd+r burns most accurately. Are there any recommendations ?

Thanks again!

Wait a sec here, what’s wrong with SPTI? ASPI is just an old standard.

Leave it where it is!!!
Sorry don’t leave it where it is… get KILLASPI and get rid of the actual aspi layer, because even if you don’t use it, it is in your computer!!!
STPI works ok for me. And if you have nero in your system, it uses its own aspi.

Hey Fox… I’d suggest checking out the liteon forum at this site. Not familiar with the 1693 but I know my 1633 likes the 4.6 ASPI. Like bichonn said, get and run killaspi and it will install 4.6 for you. I may have the link for it. I’ll take a look and if I do, I’ll post it here for you. Other wise you can do a search for it.

Hey Fox… Found it so here you go. But follow directions exactly!!!

1/ Download this file: http://clonecd.gearhost.net/clonecd/forceASPI17.zip
2/ Unzip it onto you Hard drive in a folder call ForceASPI
3/ Open the folder ForceASPI
4/ Run KILLASPI.BAT
5/ Reboot
6/ Open the folder ForceASPI
7/ Run INSTASPI.BAT
8/ Reboot

Hope this helps…

Hey all

1st of all, thanks for all your suggestions and thanks for the link to the ASPI killer (and forcer!). I followed those instructions and am now running version 4.6 of ASPI - I’ve done a bit of reading and this layer seems to be the best according to a fair few posts.

Thanks again to you all - i’ll give a go at burning a dvd when i get home!

Cheers, FoX UK
