I'm trying to rip "The Rage In Placid Lake" (PAL R0) as a single VOB file from the DVD to my hard drive, and I've tried using DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, DVDFab HD Decrypter and Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum.
DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter both report a read error and stop abruptly, and DVDFab comes up with the following message at 71% into the extraction process:
"Error while reading! Please choose what to do?
Retry | Abort | Ignore | Ignore All"
It popped up 4 times during the extraction starting at 71%, but I ended up aborting it because extraction slowed to 0.5MB/s and continued to drop slowly. Should I try again and just choose "ignore all", or would doing that damage the DVD drive/create an unwatchable copy?
Xilisoft's ripper managed to extract the VOB file, however it was only around 2.3GB and the video wasn't up to scratch; the picture quality was more like a 500MB AVI or similar...slightly grainy and pixellated. I'm a novice at this type of stuff, so if there's an option I've missed to get a normal 5GB VOB file using the ripper, please point it out! I actually wondered if I'd got a faulty disc, but I'm not sure that's the case if I've managed to rip a working copy (albeit rough).
Has anyone come across anything like this? If it helps, the OS is XP Pro with an Athlon 64 dual core 4200+ processor and 2GB RAM. Any help would be appreciated!
