TOKYO, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Struggling Japanese electronics maker Pioneer Corp (6773.T) said it was weighing various options regarding its loss-making flat TV business including all-out withdrawal and termination of in-house TV production.
Damn!Less competition means more expensive products
True, but hopefully less demand will counterbalance this. I think we will see a lot more companies pare back on the products they offer.
I saw this coming years ago. Their products are overpriced. I am hoping that OLED's make it big, then we could print TV's locally, where ever that may be.
Bad news indeed!
I wrote about the news and it's also available on the front page of CDFreaks: http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/15503-Pioneer-may-leave-TV-business.html
UTR: The price of TVs was already falling in the first place, so less demand will likely only hinder product development by TV manufacturers.
I have a standard definition 36" Sony flat screen tube TV sitting in the living room. Even the lowest rung of the LCD ladder is leaps and bounds better than what I have. I'm waiting on the $500 50 inch LCD and maybe I'll get it soon.
