I have plextor px716a the drive was working fine for couple of weeks not it doesn’t read any disks. I tried the firmware upgrade that didn’t helped . any ideas??
Go to the plextor web site, or search the forum here for instructions on how to do the self test for the PX716. Something about unhooking the ide cable, and doing something to make it do a self test (watching the blinking light) will tell you if your drive is good or bad.
It might be the drive, but it might be a Windows or driver issue too. You could try to delete the drive and/or the IDE channel it is connected to. Reboot your system and let Windows redetect the hardware. This will cause some kind of “reset”; this reset could possibly solve this issue.
