Is there any possible way to hack or modify a CD burner so that it can burn DVD-R's?

I was wondering, is there any possible way to hack or modify a CD burner so that it can burn DVD-R’s?

Welcome to CDF:

There’s different hardware inside. So no

:disagree:

DVD Burners are not that expensive anymore. If you dont have room in the tower u can pick up an external dvd burner that plugs in through usb. I got one at samsclub for $150 works great plug in and go…

Or you could save a little money and get some hands on experience and put together and internal DVD drive in an external enclosure.

Yes! There one proven method.

Necessary items:

  • Your CD Writer
  • A new dvd writer

Procedure:

Open up the case of your cd writer and remove everything in it. Throw those components away.

Then you open up the case of the new dvd writer and carefully remove everything in it. Now put all components in your cd writer case.

All done!

Warning: Your warranty on both the cd and dvd writer is lost.
