Is my DVD burner good enough for high quality DVD archived backups of data?

As per http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=182709 , I want to ensure the DVDs I make of my important/favorite/rare/etc… mp3s are reliable, secure, etc…

I own the Creative Labs DVD-R/DVD-RAM drive. It’s a few years old, came out around the time when 9 gig DVD-RAM discs were introduced to the market. I’m not sure about the exact model of the drive I have.

Hi,

with old drives, write quality with modern media is at least questionable.

Old drives are unsuitable for present day use due to one simple reason:

Lack of firmware/optimized write strategy support for current media.
