Is my 48125W dead?

My 48125W seems to be dead :frowning: it shows up in the bios and when it boots, but when i get into 98SE (i know it’s old but will be moving over to XP this weekend) i can’t do anything with it, it won’t read or write to either CDR or CDRW’s, even when i boot into DOS using 98SE boot disk i can change to drive letter but as soon as i do a directory search all i get is

“CDR101: Not ready reading drive x:”
Abort, Retry, Fail?"

when i try to format a CDRW in Nero i get the following warning

“LITE-ON 48125W
Medium not present
Please insert a rewriteable disc”

I have killed the aspi layer using “ForceASPI 1.7” and followed the instuctions and reinstalled my aspi layer and run aspicheck and here is the txt file from it…

so i presume no problems there.

I have taken system back to basic’s and only had 1 HDD and vid card and 48125W and still these problems are there, i have even gone back to an old images that just had a basic install of 98SE on it and still same problems.

It’s not been moved or knocked or anything like that so i’m at a loss as to what’s wrong with it, anyone have any suggestions on what to try and bring it back from the dead or should i just give up and buy a new one, if i need a new one i guess i should go for a LTR52327S!!
