The company has made a lot of changes to the Xbox image in preparation for the November 4th launch, but are they alienating their loyal hardcore gamer fan base in exchange for gaining market share from the Nintendo Wii crowd? I think you’d be unsuccessful at tapping that Wii market. A big chunk of those consoles were sold to non-gamers who don’t even care about HD. The same non-gamers that probably wouldn’t tend to buy a new console to replace the wii.
I think Microsoft can play both sides if they want. You have the regular controller for most folks, and the kinnect as a novelty device.
I don’t feel like Microsoft is alienating their base with the Kinect. I say that because it is an add-on. They are still fully supporting the base with the original hardware and games. Now, if they come out with the 720 and it is like a Wii in the sense that the motion control is built in and the only real way to play, then I’ll think they are indeed alienating their core customers.
However, this is all separate from whether or not the Kinect succeeds. It may not simply because the 360 base is comprised of a great many people who do not care about such things.

that’s a shorter way of saying what i said in three times as many words. Brevity has never been my strong suit.
Well, As much as I’d like to think of this as a Wii Rip-Off, I can say they are trying to get a little of Nintendo’s profit, But I can’t say it’s a Wii rip-off, I think more so that the PS3 Move is a bigger rip-off of the Wii’s control scheme.
But I see no problem for Microsoft wanting to have a bit of a kiddish side to their console.
But I think the Kinect is more of a rip-off of the EyeToy and the PS3Eye, with the whole use your body as a controller thing, and the recent titles such as Sonic Free Riders reminded me very much of the game, Anti-Grav for the PS2 EyeToy.
But that’s just my opinion.
