I wonder how its camera compares with the Flip. Going by its features and specifications, it looks like it’s trying to take on the budget HD camcorder market. For example, it takes 720p video and also has the ability to take 5 Megapixel photos.

On the other hand, it’s claim of “The only camera you need to carry” is going a bit too far. I highly doubt its 5x Digital zoom will take better telephoto pictures than the most basic 3x optical zoom camera and even it’s LED flash is unlikely going to be anywhere near as powerful as any camera’s strobe flash. I’d be happy to challenge it against my DSLR and Flash and see how it lives up to this claim.

The screen resolution (960 x 640) on the other hand would be nice to have on a camera and this alone would falsely trick some consumers into thinking this has a much better camera than their point & shoot or camcorder.

5 megapixels I can live with. Digital zoom is just plain lame.

That would be interesting to see, I bet the Flip would show better quality since it’s a dedicated camera device. However, if the iPhone 4 has comparable quality, demand in the Flip might decrease.

My old N95 had 5 MP back in the days (that’s almost three years ago now), although currently my mobile phone has even less MP - truth is I don’t care really, quality is decent enough for my purposes. However, iPhones always trailed behind with their cameras, and the new iPhone doesn’t change this trend, with some competitors already having 12MP camera phones out there.

An optical zoom just can´t be packed into a thin body like this…no other manufacturer has one either. This is just the norm. Some cameras however do have better flashes (many Sonys for example have had them for years).

Aside from this, here´s a nice little summary of the best smart phones

Nice overview! Too bad some of these phones won’t be released in Europe

I think the iPhone 4 camera will be “good enough” for most consumers to use as their one and only point and shoot camera. Obviously there’s no comparison to a DSLR, but they’re not trying to be…

The ability to edit video right on your phone sounds awesome. Record, edit, upload to YouTube. Done!

Too bad you’re locked into a 3 year contract here in Canada. I’d rather make a deal with Satan.
Here are your options, folks…

Bell - Blatant, in your face, squeal like a pig ripoff
Rogers - Ripoff with a side of wallet sodomy
Telus - Ripoff shoved up your ass sideways

Think we could catch a break and have Wind Mobile get the new iPhone? Not on your life, friend. That would save you money and make sense. Are you on drugs or something?

And why is Canada getting the new iPhone in late July when the US, France, UK, Germany, and Japan get it on June 24th? I hear Iceland and Somalia are getting it before us. Yeah, I feel pretty special. Thanks for nothing, Apple. It’ll be a cold day in hell before you get a cent from me.

Being a non-iPhone person, the #1 thing that excited me from these announcements is that they are going to make FaceTime an “open” standard. This means iPhone users should be able to chat with Android users on FaceTime at some point in the future.
