Ion tape converter

I’m sorry I haven’t got a proper category for this question but I’m not quite sure which category to put it into.
I’m converting spoken word cassettes to mp3 (after a lot of false starts) - do I need volume when converting or can I mute? Seems a silly question I know but I don’t really want to hear each story until I play it on my Ipod.

Many thanks

Master audio levels sometimes does have an effect on recording programs. I know this is true for one program I have that captures sound as it is played from various sources.

If you have a desktop computer with separate speakers, they usually have a physical volume control (a knob) that you can adjust. Or simply turn them off or unplug the speakers. If you are on a laptop, this is more of a problem.
