Invalid DVD Navigation Structure with DvDShrink

Hello,

I have bought some arita’s last week with mediacode RitekG04 (-) 4speed and i have some problems with it.

When i burn a dvd and want to copy it later or just import it to my hd then it’s impossible to do. The dvd movie plays fine on my standalone player though.

For example, i put the dvd movie in my dvdrom and open dvdshrink and do ‘open disc’ and then immidiately dvdshrink gives the error:

Invalid DVD Navigation Structure”.

I burn my movies with dvddecrypter. Can that be the prob? I do have the newest version installed.

Does someone have any idea’s why this is happening? Thanks for any help.

you haven’t mentioned what you’re doing to copy the discs initially. you only mention that you burn them with dvd decrypter. are you using dvdshrink to transcode them as well (or any other transcoder)? and if so, what procedure are you using? you need to give details if anyone is to figure out what the problem is.

Hey Jason23 , Im sorry i cant help as im having the exact same problem. Ive been burning backups of my collection for quite some time now and only had 1 problem with XXX out of over 100 backups Im using NEC burner which performs great and have been using DVD Shrink 3.0 untill i got the eror Invalid DVD navigation Structure. Now for some unknowen reason im getting error. Backed up films - “The Terminal” “Tomb Raider : Cradle Of Life” “Lost In Translation” and “National Treasure” over the past week. Today however when i try to back up my “Resedent Evil : Apocalypse” i get the afore mentioned error as soon as i try to open disk. I upgraded to 3.2 in the hope that 3.0 was obsolete and that 3.2 would solve the problem but no such luck. CAN anyone shed ny lighton this problem. Is it a failing of DVD Shrink regarding dcertain copy protections and only resolved by using different DVD backup software ?

Highlander2004, you problem with Navigation Structure is that the disc has the Sony ArcoSS protection on it. Shrink cannot read the disc which is why you get the error.

You need to rip to the hard disk first with DVD Decrypter. Then Shrink will work with the files.

jason23, What DVD are you having problems with. It is not the fault of the discs. If you want to put a burned DVD onto the hard disk just drag and drop the video_ts folder using my computer then burn to a disc.

NWG, thanks for the advice man, Downloaded DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and it decrypted all files to the hard Drive. I then used Shrink DVD to open files and it semed to do this ok and requested blank media when reday to burn.

BUT the following error appeared :frowning: Burn Process Failed at 8x (11,080 Kb/s))

IF anyone can help here i would appeciate it. Thanks.

Remove your first line. It is your serial number for Nero. You dont want that over the net.

It looks like you are using a old version of Nero try updating it. Are you using the latest fimrware for your writer? Sometmes that helps.

Have you used the discs before without any problems? Also try burning slower. I still burn at 2x.

Get a RW disc. It saves wasting discs and they can be used for testing.

I don’t burn with Nero through Shrink. I always go to a hard disk folder then check the files are ok. The use Nero on its own to burn. Sometimes, I use DVD Decrypter to burn with.

I tried to use the Decrypter to rip the new movie Stealth,

someone can help to figure out pls. Thx.

DVD Decrypter alone cannot rip it. You need to use a PSL 2 file for stealth. You can also try the new version of DVDFAB Decrypter.

There might be other reasons than Arccos for this. Check out the DVD Shrink FAQ.

While DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter seem to be the most popular with backing up DVDs, if I’ve ever encountered any problems I found that using AnyDVD and CloneDVD together will allow backing up of essentially “any” DVD. CloneDVD can do the same as DVD shrink can (possibly with less quality or more, I’ve never looked into it myself), but you can choose to have CloneDVD shrink the movie or you can rip it to a size for a DVD9. Should you choose not to compress it, you can then use DVD Shrink to encode the ripped files as you normally would. I’ve personally backed up Stealth using this method, so I know it works just fine. However, CloneDVD and AnyDVD are not free, so you have to buy the software unless you know “other means” of getting software ;).

Solution is found in post number 1, “Solution C.”

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45459

I had the same " invalid DVD navigation structure" problem.
I have a Liton Standalone recorder, and anytime I had recorded more than one session - dvd shrink would not open it.
Here is how I resolved it:
I hooked a dvd player to my standalone dvd recorder, with the trouble disk in the player, and a blank DVDRW disk in the recorder.
I recorded each session on the problem disk as a seperate movie - one session only. When one session was recorded, I took the dvdrw disk and put it in my computer, opened it with dvdshrink - then when that one was on my hard-drive - I erased the DVDRW disk, then recorded the next session, opened it with dvdshrink - erased the drdrw disk etc…
Be sure you erase the rewritable disk each time, so you only have one session at a time.
There may be a better solution - but this one worked - at least for me.
Hope this helps someone.

Hi there, in regards to this post… just wondering if you could tell me how you rip to the hard disk first with DVD Decrypter? Thanks a bunch

Make sure that “File” is selected under the “Mode” menu and that all of the files on the right are selected.

@guyzer_69, as mentioned in this old thread Dvd Decrypter & Dvd Shrink cannot handle the newer protected Dvds because they have not been updated in quite a while. Just thought you should know that if you are going to be backing up newer movies you are probably going to have to use other methods, some do have these programs included.
