Hello guys

Three years ago I registered at the forum, but for personal problems, loss of e-mail account, password, etc, I was out of here. Now I’m back, and I hope to contribute here. In time, I own several Lite-on recorders, so I hope I can help and learn, of course.

Brazilian greetings!

Vinicius

Sometimes I feel so idoitic, like now, when I’m “replying to the thread” because I can’t figure out how to post an introduction as a new thread…

I’m retired, have been building desktop computers for about 15 years as I need them. I was a chemist (or related functions) for the better part of 40 years. I enjoy cooking, brewing, winemaking, photography, and most recently learning to play Minecraft so I can somehow compete with my 7 year old grandson, who likes to “go invisible” and then blow holes underneath me until I fall into the lava and die…For all of you with young kids these days that are addicted to the toys we never had at that age, I’m sure you’ll understand. What was the expression - “If you can’t figure it out (some electronic gadget), ask a 10 year old!” Well, now it’s ask a 7 year old… Of course, he & his sister have a WII, and I have a PS3, so the buttons on the handheld controllers are the reverse so when I am babysitting at their house I end up throwing my sword away or some such thing in the heat of battle because I’m used to a PS3 controller… that I use at home to practice on so I can KICK HIS BUTT SOMEDAY! (It’ll never happen - he is miles ahead of me, but I can DREAM!)

We’re not competitive at all in our family… My wife & her sister are Pinochle sharks - you don’t want to partner against them if you expect to be civil for the next week.

Oh well, that’s just a little about me to get you started. I live outside of Atlanta, GA, USA, being originally from Connecticut but here for the past two decades.

Never mind, we all have our moments. And this thread is probably the best place to introduce yourself anyway.
Hi,

This is Sarah Adams, professional researcher
Hello Sara, sounds interesting, what type of research are you working on now.? Welcome to Myce.com.

#7835

Hi all! Just want to introduce myself, I just discovered this forum while researching something online.

My name is Jared, I’m a data recovery guy and I work at a company called Data Medics (just google it, I can’t post links yet)

Basically I spend my days fixing hard drives, RAID arrays, and the likes to recover data. So feel free to hit me up with any data recovery related questions you might have.

#7836

Welcome to the forums Jared. Hope you enjoy the site.

#7837

As they say, what Kerry said^^
Welcome to the forums Jared. Hope you enjoy the site.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Just out of curiosity, do you guys know what the rules are regarding signatures? I see some members posting a signature link to a business site, or personal site, etc. I just want to be sure I play by the rules. I’ve been banned from a couple other forums for just doing what I saw others doing, but apparently they had “special rights” on that forum.

I don’t believe there are hard and fast rules about this, so it would undoubtedly come down to a case by case examination of the links and a decision by the mods or admins.

Some subjects are forbidden around here, like porn, religion, politics and disputing the fact that Pepst knows every single MID code ever produced in the history of optical discs. Wait, I think I made that last one up.

A link to a site with helpful information might be tolerated…like a folding at home site, or a private directory of extracted firmware for optical drives, or even something more personal, like a list of stories you’ve written or pictures you taken, or objects you’ve made, where you want an audience and critiques.

But commercial sites would probably raise some hackles, and would be considered spam. You might get a warning first, but then again, if that particular mod was in no mood for nonsense, you might not.

Probably best not to link to outside sites with any type of commercial interest. And definitely best not to link to porn, warez, religious sites or politically charged websites.

Roughly the same for general post rules: http://club.myce.com/announcement.php?f=34&announcementid=37

The short of it is we generally don’t allow links to business sites. (Anything that would bring about the exchange of money for goods/services is a no-no). Self-promotion for any kind of personal gain isn’t generally allowed, either. EDIT: Kerry covered a few other things above.

But linking to personal blogs/sites is fine, as long as there’s a reasonable…reason for linking back to it. Most any hobby site directly related to technology is welcome.

Also also, 1) we tend to make requests of people if something is wrong, and 2) should a request go ignored, we tend to give ample warnings to people before we ban them*. Bonus: 3) we definitely don’t mind being asked if content is fine beforehand, if you’re concerned you fall into a gray area of the rules, and 4) we’re generally predisposed to give the respect/kindness we receive.

*: I am not responsible for what happens when I see a user post something that 100% looks like spam of any sort. I mean, SOMETIMES I’m responsible. You know what I mean. :stuck_out_tongue:

But I WILL say…we don’t tend to give special rights. Though we do things on a case by case basis at times, we always try to fold our ultimate decision back into the rules, and (if necessary) retroactively enact said rules. Kind of like setting a precedent. But we also tend to give people plenty of warning. At times, we even have the community directly decide for itself what the course of action should be…though we have had to revisit decisions which don’t ultimately work out.

Given that I rather enjoy it here, I am forced to say…
reads script

"Yes, pepst DOES indeed know every MID, and if anyone ever questions that fact, they will be swiftly put out on their tail with no options of recourse.

“FURTHERMORE flips page if anyone ever insists that pepst does not know the manufacturer of a disc, you must be prepared to provide extensive proof of this fact, else you will be in charge of managing pepst’s disc storage facility. This is non-negotiable.”
