Okay, removed battery, held power button down for 10, 20, and 30 seconds, no change.
Hard drive shows up as primary IDE #0.
Have tried the following firmwares:
TO02_080312 ( this from Toshiba.com for computers similar to mine with TS-L632x drive, though my computer is not listed.
I am loading firmware using SFDNWIN with the -NOCHECK option.
I confirm the new firmware with InfoTool and Winquiry.
After loading each firmware, I still get IDE #1 error.
I then go to system/hardware and see N/A under secondary IDE, no drive visible.
I then close the top of the computer, forcing it into standby, reopen the computer, refresh the view in system/hardware, and my drive now shows up as Secondary IDE drive #1, mode PIO only.
Identical results with all three firmwares.
I then remove secondary IDE in hardware, and reboot computer.
When computer reboots, still get IDE #1 error, and after computer restarts, I see message that secondary ide has been installed.
I then go to system/hardware, see no secondary drive, close the top, reopen it, and drive appears as secondary IDE #1.
The pins seem to be okay on the drive, looking into the bay I can’t see any problem with the jack, but it is hard to see and the connectors are very small.
I will try it with hard drive removed tomorrow and and let you know results.
Open at this point to buying a new functional drive if someone could suggest one, but really want one I could just plug in and go. I’d even go for an old time SK12D like I used to have if it would work.
