Can anyone recommend third party programs which monitor registry entries and file locations, etc. of installed programs? Preferably one which also has an auto-remove option which will automatically clean up a messy uninstallation as well, so I don’t have to bother running regedit or finding some pesky files myself.
I think ad-aware has a free prog called reg-clean.
Thanks Stoner. I was actually looking for some program where I can monitor the modifications an installation does to my computer, so that if I want to uninstall it I can do it completely without leaving all sorts of garbage .dll files, registry entries, etc around.
I think the program you refer to only goes for known spyware registry keys, and not ‘legitimate’ programs that just have messy uninstalls.
I think this is what you’re looking for.
Registry Watch has two functions, the first function it can perform is to make backups of the Registry, yes even on Windows NT, 2000, and XP. With this backup you can restore your corrupt Registry using Registry Watch to undo all the changes since your last backup. The second function it can do is to tell you what changes were made to your Registry and if you wish you can undo all or some of the changes. This is great for people who want to track software installations; or if you want to see what changes are made when you run another piece of software.

I like and use System Mechanic.
I think this will do what you want.
