Is there any site where I can get info about who actually makes the different CD writers - like LG/Samsung/ASUS. Do these people make their own drives or are they based on the Sanyo or Liteon drives. I saw the ASUS 5224 and it looked quite a bit like the Plextor 5224.
LG, Lite-On, Asus, Plextor, AOpen, and I believe Samsung all make their own drives. Sony CD-RW drives are from Lite-On last I heard.
Many lesser-known or store brands are relabeled versions of one of these (or a few other makers like BTC).
Thanks for the reply. I was under impression that some of these drives were made with Sanyo/Liteon parts. Recently I owned an Iomega 4824 and visually it was a ditto copy of the Liteon.
