How to increase the resolution of a photograph. Does "(Edited out)" a photo resizer for windows helps in acheiving it. Or is there any other software available.

If you are trying to improve the quality of the image, resizing won’t really help. You’ll need to learn how to use filters, like sharpen/unsharpen, maybe adjust the saturation/hue, contrast/birghtness, noise reduction, whatever tools your photo editing program has. Play around with them, just remember to use a copy of the original, never the original itself.

Hello Saurabh37, I see you are back with a different problem. The only true way to increase the Resolution, is to go back to the source. If these pictures are from your Digital Camera, you could increase the Resolution Size to the Max. Say you have a 5 Megapixel, you could increase your photos to that size but they will be a lot bigger and take up more memory and use up your Memory Card. You can play around with the settings and see what works best for you. I set my Digital Camera around 2 Megapixels and that works for me. It prints out a decent photo.

Now if you want to change and clean up the pictures you have, depending on your Photo Software you can enhance them and clean them up a little, but the Resolution will remain the same. So for Resolution, you can decrease, but you really can’t increase.

Open the image in a photo editing program such as Photoshop, or Gimp.

Select Image or Image Properties.

Select from this menu the Image Size option

Where it tell you the dpi value, simply increase this number, for example from the native 180dpi to say 400. You must make sure the resampling options are set to the optimal for enlargement. The software will resample and recalculate the pixels surround those captured.

When applied carefully, the results can be made to be much more useful than you may have thought.

Yeah you can enhance the appearance of a photo with those packages but you can’t increase the original quality.

The nearest you’ll get to this for enlargements is by using fractal resizing software, which interprets the actual features in the photo to create the additional data, rather than the more crude method of interpolating surrounding pixels.

You should always do a fractal resize as the last step though.

Or in other words, if you want to enhance the look of the photo in an editing package, change whatever you prefer before you do the fractal resize.
