INcD has control and won't let go

. . . and ForceASPI didn’t help.

I have Windows XP and a Nero DVD/CD ROM drive. Whenever I put a disk in the drive, I receive an error message that the device is already in use. In My Computer, my D drive is my DVD/CD ROM drive. I used to have an icon of a disk being inserted into a drive for that drive. Now the icon is the INcD icon. I clicked on Properties > Recording tab, and checked the box “Enable CD recording on this drive.” On the Hardware tab, it lists the D drive as TSST Corp CDW/DVD TS-H492A, type DVD/CD ROM drives. It also says “Location 0 (0),” and “Device Status: This device is working properly.” When I click on Troubleshoot, I receive a messages that states that I need to open Help and Support, but it didn’t help

Also, when I attempt to use Nero Express to burn a CD, “Current Recorder: TSST Corp CDW/DVD TS-H492A [CD-R/RW]” has a red x on it.

I downloaded and installed ForceASPI and followed the directions, rebooted, but it didn’t help. As a matter of fact, my pc runs as if I have a 56k dial-up connection. :a I created a restore point before I ran ForceASPI and I’ll be doing a system restore.

Nero gives me an error message that the device is already in use (which it is, by INcD). I can watch DVDs using the device, I can burn vcd’s, I can play CD’s in it, but I can’t erase a CDRW or create a music, mp3 or data disk. I also received a message that said “Drive D is locked by INcD server. Do you want to try to release the drive?”. I clicked “Yes” but it said “it failed to release INcD” and it provided a report. The following excerpts are copied from the report.

I went to Nero but they didn’t respond to my request for assistance.

Somebody with some real know-how please tell me what do I have to do to make Nero work properly again?

I clicked on Properties > Recording tab, and checked the box “Enable CD recording on this drive.”

This activates the XP burner which you don’t want so uncheck this. It doesn’t work well with other burning apps.

Okay, I finally found the solution.

If you’re having problems with Nero/ASPI/INcD, this url for Nero will
solve your CD burning problems. It did mine.

Click on the Tools link and follow the instructions for each step:

Support Tools
Info Tools
Clean Tools
CD/DVD-ROM Test
ASPI Driver
System Updates / Libraries (if applicable)

It has easy, thorough instructions, and I was able to burn a CD
after I rebooted for the last time.

and

This is the Nero 6 update page to download and install all the programs
associated with Nero that weren’t included with the Nero software on
the Tools page:

I downloaded all 4 of the updates but I didn’t install INcD. Nero StartSmart
and Nero Express don’t need it to burn any type of cd, vcd or svcd.
