Im stuck on flashing my drive

Hello, can someone please help me with this.

I have 2 CD-r drives and I want to firmware flash one of them.

The drive I want to flash is a LG CD-RW CED-8042B and I want to flash it to a Lite-on LTR-48125W. I use a program called MtkWinFlash. But when i try and flash my drive I get this error…

Press Browse Load A Bin/Hex File And Flash.
ERR: fail to identify the flash type!
Please wait a moment…
Complete! Please restart your computer.

Can someone help me please?

PS. I downloaded the firmware from: http://web.archive.org/web/20030612232925/http://liteon.notrix.net

If you have anyother Liteon firmware that will work with that program I will be happy to use that one instead.

How come you think your drive is a LiteOn?
AFAIK it is not.

My drive is not a liteon but I want to flash it as a liteon. Iv heard u can do it. And I want to do it to mine.

You can only do that if your drive is a “rebadged” LiteOn drive (originally made by LiteOn, just sold under a different name with different firmware and/or labeling).
I really don’t think that drive is a rebadged LiteOn though… I wasn’t able to find any information that it was… if you think it is where did you hear that?

Be very clear on this, if you aren’t careful you could easily end up wrecking your drive.

So iv heard, iv got a Sony DRU-510AK drive too though, and I heard you can flash a sony drive to a LITEON?

No, it is not.

You may be thinking of the Sony DRU-500A, it’s a LiteOn 400D. Or the Sony DW-U18A is a LiteOn 812S. AFAIK that’s the only two though.

Thanks for the help. In that case then, how do i modify my firmware? like alter what speeds it can burn at and turn off error control?
