I'm so tired of searching reviews

I need to replace my internal (IDE) HP DVD burner. I have searched the reviews here and on MANY other sites to the point that I’m sick of reading. There is no real answer for me. I’m a photographer and I simply need a good burner that I will use for copying photos for clients and backing up photos and burning slideshows for my clients. I want it to be a lightscribe burner as well. I’m just so confused as to what to get. Money is not that big of issue but it looks like I should be able to stay under $50.00 if I order from Newegg or places like that. Can someone please point me to a good burner or…are they all good?

thanks

Here you go…IDE interface, Lightscribe capability, very good quality burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118026

As an alternative, this LG: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136147

I never even looked at the optiarc drive because I cant find and feedback on it.

I have seen the LG though.

Thanks

The NEC is probably a Lite-on rebadge, judging from a few posts around here. If you have any prejudice against Lite-on, you might avoid it on that basis, but it should be fine otherwise.

If you’d like a real NEC, this one at Zipzoomfly is the one I was originally thinking of when I went to recommend one to you: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10008498

@ Kiw1,

That is very ‘unusual’ comment because the CD Freaks Forum has a dedicated Optiarc Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f86) where you obtain extensive information on Optiarc Drives.

omg, as a photographer I would buy one with reliable quality scan!

Here’s my personal opinion: LITEON iHAP422 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106269

I just bought a LITEON myself (another, very different modell - older model, SATA, non-Lightscribe). I just have to figure out how to burn with this new friend as it features several general and LITEON-specific optimizing technolgies and I don’t know how those are allowed and how those are not allowed to be combined if it should make sense.

Here’s the latest official firmware for the LITEON iHAP422 if it has an older one than that: http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/ODD/iHAP422/firmware/VL14.rar Only for use for the LITEON iHAP422 model!

You’ll need this software by LITEON: http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/utilities/SmartBurn351.zip

And you’ll need this litle tool to check the DVD burn quality: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroDiscSpeed_41140.zip

If you use “imgburn” burner software, you can read a little, ongoing discussion about how to use a LITEON drive with that software which I started in my big pain here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/opc-question-258513/

I think he might have meant that specific model of Optiarc drive, which is new to the market, and most likely a Lite-On rebadge, so no CDfreakers have even bothered with it yet.

Here are my suggestions:

 1. Lite-On DH-20A4H
 2. Lite-On iHAP422 (DH-20A8H)

Both have lightscribe, both are great burners, both are reasonably priced, and both are available at NewEgg.

Confusion and frustration eliminated. :flower:
