Illegal disc error, dvd, using nero 6

vbimport

#1

Anyone know why i would be getting an illegal disc error, coming up when i try and burn dvd’s, i just brought some new disc’s of ebay and every burn this error comes up. My burner is a lite-on, the disc’s are negatives, i have burnt negative disc’s before but not this brand, they are white printable disc.
Any help would be good, as i have 500 of these disc’s!!!

Welcome to the forums

as i have 500 of these disc’s
Uh Oh! Sometimes particular brands/MID of disc just dont agree with your writer. You could try flashing to a current firmware if there is one. Also download and run this program, it will tell you exactly what discs (MID code) you have: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Post back what you’ve got, maybe even post the error log as well just so we can have a look at the error code your getting.

#3

Thanks for that, i will download dvd identifier and see what they are, also here is the error log. Thanks.

#10

you are not going to like this but Princo discs are probebely one of the most unreliable media on this planet, and you brought 500 of them

#11

PIMPCO and Fleabay can be a deadly combination. Try your old media to check for problem. If okay, then it’s time to dump the PIMPCO. Why buy 500 discs without any prior testing???

#12

Sorry, a bit off topic…but what is the privacy concern about having the serial number show? Isn’t this just the serial number to the disc? Why is that a concern?

#13

someone could use the number to unlock the trial version of nero instead of buying there own.

Sense Key is: CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM . INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT. In short your writer hates these discs. I also noticed Nero is unable to recognise the media which may have something to do with it.

Insert empty disc to write to.

Try a firmware upgrade if one is available, try this Forum:http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36, and have a look at the Liteon Forum as well:http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44 As Ako and Furballi stated, Princo is pretty crappy, hence Ebay, and I’ll bet you got them at a good price. I’ve used them before, and they’ve burnt OK, but over time the dye has faded and I’ve lost them all. Good Luck:)

#15

ok, thanks for that everybody, i have used Princo disc’s before with no dramas, is there different types? I have only used negative type before.
If Princo are so crap what brand do you suggest?
I have had dramas with disc’s ever since i got my burner, and always put it down to the disc’s, but it sounds like it could be my burner.
Would i be better of using + disc’s instead?
Is there anyway of knowing what my burner likes?

#16

Yo-

Most LiteOn/Sony burners prefer +R medias-

Princo media is nothing but Pure Crap Media - and the only way it can be sold is by offering at a good price - once you have gotten it - it is yours - regardless -

In the future you may want to get Ritek, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Maxell medias - all of which are good and reliable-

Also - buying from eBay vendors will almost guarantee that you get either defective or marginal discs - at best -

I am speaking from my experiences - in addition to the experiences of a number of fellow CD Freaks - so don’t feel bad - as there are many others who have come down the same path…

Do yourself a favor - either give your Princos to your very worst enemy - or toss them - in any event - they are not worth keeping around-

Mike

Not different types but with cheaper brands consistency is the problem. You might find 100/500 work OK or more or less. Check the link in my signature for quality media. Everyone has their own recommendations. I use and have no problems with TDK - (TTGO2) and + (RICOHJPN). Good discs are always ‘made in Japan’. Others I know of are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

#18

thanks everybody for your help, i think that i will sell my Princo’s and try a + disc in another better brand.

cheers.

#19

Now that’s not very nice. Selling your garbage to another unsuspecting individual. What goes around comes around.

#20

Ricohjpnr01 get along with liteons very well (they get along with most drives for that matter). They are 4x media but they usally burn very good at 6x and 8x (omni patch your firmware to allow faster burning). If you can find them for a good price, maxell 4x+r are almost always ricohjpnr01. Keep an eye on office depots adds if you try these disks and like them.
