Illegal Disc Erroe - disc speed?

I’ve been using nero 6.6.0.18 with my LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S for a long time without any problems. I use TDK discs and when I use 8x speed, I have no problems but with the new 16x discs I get this…

Is there any fix for this?

Thank a lot!

Hey bkslick… I would venture to say that your Litey does not like CMC Mag media. I know mine doesn’t. It maybe labled or what we call branded TDK, but is actually made by CMC Mag. This particular media IMO is :Z :Z :Z . You could try downloading 4.6 ASPI which these 1633’s seem to thrive on. You can do this with these directions.

1/ Download this file: http://clonecd.gearhost.net/clonecd/forceASPI17.zip
2/ Unzip it onto you Hard drive in a folder call ForceASPI
3/ Open the folder ForceASPI
4/ Run KILLASPI.BAT
5/ Reboot
6/ Open the folder ForceASPI
7/ Run INSTASPI.BAT
8/ Reboot

This may help but if not, I hope you didn’t get many of these disc’s. Try a known quality media. I can get some pretty nice burns with TY 8X +R’s burnt at 12X with mine. And your only looking at a difference of approx. 1.5 minutes in burn time between 12 and 16X. Give it a try and let us know how it turns out. Happy Burnen and Welcome to the Forum.

I’m gonna answer my own question. Somebody might find it useful. All that was need was a firmware update which I found at forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

thanks

That can certainly help also. I presumed you had already done this as you said you had been using it for some time. I still strongly suggest going with 4.6 ASPI as this helped the performance of mine a great deal. This info was given to me about 1yr ago from Codeguys forum and it worked. Also I would stay away from the CMC media.
