Since the drive is SATA that should have nothing to do with your IDE HDD.
How are your SATA ports configured in BIOS? Make sure they're not set up in RAID mode and try different settings.
A quick search on the net shows that your mobo has: 2 x SerialATA 1.5Gb/s connectors supporting RAID,0,1,JBOD, SATA HDD_Hotplug. Try setting your SATA ports as JBOD and see if that makes any difference. It might also be that since your mobo is quite old, the VIA chipset (I presume) used wasn't meant to work with and doesn't work with optical drives. Check your user manual for more details.
