hello, i’ve searched to no avail, can anyone provide me with media codes for these DVDs? i’d like confirmation instead of just guesses… thanks.

HP DVD+R 16x, $0.60 CAD per disk
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007326&cid=719.88

HP DVD-R 8x, $0.52 CAD per disk
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007255&cid=719.88

HP DVD+R 8x, $0.52 CAD per disk
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007254&cid=719.88

Philips DVD-R 8x, $0.52 CAD per disk
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007481&cid=719.88

Philips DVD+R 8x, $0.54 CAD per disk
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007457&cid=719.88

Sony DVD-R 8x, $0.50 CAD per disk
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007629&cid=719.88

this one i would assume is MMC, but you can never be sure:
Verbatim DVD-R 8x, $0.70 CAD per disk
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=006191&cid=719.88

would it be better to pick up RICOHJPN03 from future shop for $0.40-45 per disk?

while i’m babbling, why don’t we form a database of CD/DVD media information? it’s really hard to get information from this site by searching the forum.

It’s all here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia except HP DVD+R 16x.

#3

that doesnt help me at all, there are multiple MIDs for each media on that page.

for example philips 8x DVD+R has MBIPG101R04, INFOME…R20, CMC MAG.E01, Philips.081, RICOHJPNR02, RITEK…R03.

also on that site the sony media is listed as SONY08D1… so, if i buy these discs, am i GUARANTEED this MID? somehow i doubt it.

now, has anyone ACTUALLY BOUGHT any of these discs?

if i actually had a source of income i would buy them all and see for myself

That is exactly what it means, you will get different kind of MIDs from brands such as HP, Philips and Memorex. Stick with quality media and you’re set without any doubt.

for example philips 8x DVD+R has MBIPG101R04, INFOME…R20, CMC MAG.E01, Philips.081, RICOHJPNR02, RITEK…R03.
That’s correct, read above.

also on that site the sony media is listed as SONY08D1… so, if i buy these discs, am i GUARANTEED this MID? somehow i doubt it.

Why? You WILL get SONY08D1 for Sony DVD-R 8x made in Taiwan or Japan.

now, has anyone ACTUALLY BOUGHT any of these discs?
Yes for verbatim and sony from your list.

if i actually had a source of income i would buy them all and see for myself
You can find thousands of info in this blank media forum as well but if you don’t believe them then you should prove (read:buy) them yourself.

so… what do you mean, quality media? what am i supposed to buy? just verbatim?

That’s correct, read above.

useless. i know it’s correct, that’s why i said it. why do you think i created this thread? to find out which MID is currently in use. can you either post something useful or nothing at all?

i’m asking for information about these disks in paticular. i don’t think it’s sensible for HP to use eight different manufacturers at the same time, one of them has to be the current one or at least the most common one at the moment.

Why? You WILL get SONY08D1 for Sony DVD-R 8x made in Taiwan or Japan.

now we’re getting somewhere. in answer to your query, i doubted i would get the SONY MID because they sometimes shift manufacturers, so… you never know. especially if you look at memorex, etc.

Yes for verbatim and sony from your list.

ok, is the sony good?

You can find thousands of info in this blank media forum as well but if you don’t believe them then you should prove (read:buy) them yourself.

most of this “thousands of info” is inconsistent. it seems every single brand performs poorly and deteriorates except TY and MMC. so i’m simply looking for a cheap media with a good media code.

The mid code does not promise good quality mate. Copying of mid codes is not unknown. If you want good quality media then you pay for it simple.

What gets me on the Verbatim one is it says no warranty. That doesn’t sit right with me give Verbs warranty is known given they are one of the few that offer a life time one. Is it that the shop is not giving a warranty on them.

It is rather normal for some Brands to use different MIDs at the same time. Fuji at the moment has 3 MIDs with their DVD-R (Fuji, TY and Prodisc). TDK also has two MIDs with their DVD-R (TDK and TY).
With most brands you will not know what you get before opening the package (some times you can identify by looking if its MIJ or MIT).

nevermind. it seems noone has any useful information.
