Identify the maker of the CD/DVD - Software request

I need to find a piece of software which will allow me to compare
the maker/batches of CDs/DVDs. I remember years ago software
and databases of who made what was available; it seemed a good
parlor trick, and a way to avoid the crappiest of the crappy.

Does such software still exist?

Thanks for your help.

What do you mean? If you need a software to identify the real media manufacturer and then to see another usersโ€™ experiences with that kind of medium you should use DVD Identifier which can directly access the media database of videohelp.com.
If you need only to identify the real manufacturer, you can use Nero CD DVD Speed or DVD Info Pro

Real manufacturer In most cases the MID will tell you using DVD Identifier or
Nero CD SPEED.

But in some cases the MID can be abused.(TY/Mitsubishi codes are mostly abused)
Best change of retrieving the actuall manufacturer would then post the serial number in the hub and the stamper number found at the bottom of the media.
Post them over here and I or someone else might be able to tell you the real manufacturer.
