Retail prices of 16x DVD burners continue to fall

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that the new 16x drives
are dropping in price some more!

Retail prices of 16x DVD Dual burners in Taiwan generally dropped last week, with models without support for an 8.5GB single-sided double-layer (DL) disks falling to NT$2,049 (US$63), mainly as a result of product promotions for the annual IT Month computer show, according to sources in the local retail channel.

Prices for 12x DVD Dual burners have also
fallen to below NT$2,100 (US$65) and those of 8é—8 DVD burners to NT$1,900
(US$59).Retail prices for 16x DVD+R/-R discs are still high, however,
though prices for mainstream 8x DVD+R/-R discs are now NT$200 (US$6.2) for
a 10-disc package from local brands and about NT$250 (US$7.7) for Japanese
brands.

One minute, we here DVD shortages and polymer scares,
the next minute, prices drop some more (at least in Taiwan). Something tells me
though, that this wont continue forever. There probably will be a future with
strained suppies ahead for us. Te DVD is just too
popular.
