Excite@home searching for illegal downloads

Exite@home, an Australian cable provider is looking for illegal downloaders. By monitoring everybody once in a while they want to find out what user is using its connection to download illegal stuff like mp3's and movies.

And then it happens: they found you to be a huge downloader of mp3's. What they can do? Without any notice at all you can (and will) be disconnected.

It's quite obvious that about every Excite@home user ain't very happy with this. One bad thing about this is that Exite@home doesn't seem to care about the privacy of the user. This also rises the question wether this monitoring is legal.

Lots of users think Excite@home is just doing this to get rid of heavy downloaders because traffic=money. Exite@home denies this and claims to do this on behave of the law.

If you ask me: lame action. One of the best things of a fast connection (like cable) is that you can download anything you want (well almost...) but in this way... no fun in a cable connection anymore. I hope Excite@home realises this en stops these actions. Otherwhise some other ISP's might like this idea and start with monitoring as well.... and that's just another thing we don't need...
