hi there, as you can from the title, i have become rather frustrated at my plextor 40/12/40a, and i can't really find a solution
Here the other day i bought Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne, and since i have a nasty habbit of destroying my cds, i wantet to back it up.
i knew it was using a new version of securom, and that it could be beaten by blindwrite.
so i made a image with blindread (ver18.104.22.168), i would then see if i could play the image file from my comp. I started daemon tools and mounted the image, and ½ sec after it reportet an error, DAMN i thought, then i opened blindwrite and cheked the image, and boy it was a nasty result, bad header, read errors and so on.
i remembered that i btw had forgotten to make the bwa file, np i began the reading at 2x because i wanted to be sure of its quality, it looked fine about halfway, then those nasty peaks began showing all over, not just one but many, and they didn't seem to have an end, so i stopped bwa builder. hmmm i thought.
then i put the cd in my toshiba drive (SD-M1502) and read with blindread at the same settings, then i mounted the image in daemon tools, and...IT WORKED!! hmmm i thougt and looked angrily at my plextor, then i cheked the imagefile with blindwrite, no problems, no bad headers, no read errors, HMMM. i started BWA builder sat the readspeed to 16x (i wanted to make my toshiba fail - angry? YES) and pressed start. it maked the most "pretty" curve i have ever seen. WHAT i thought. then i burned the whole thing in blindwrite with my plextor, and guess what. it worked like a charm both in my plextor and in my toshiba, and i did not have autoplay enabled.
this is pissing me off, as i have been told that the plextor should be a fantastic reader, and a good burner. but it was "outread" by my old toshiba drive which costed about the half of the plextor at that time. did i even make a good buy when i bought that plextor, or have i wasted my money.
ps. this is not the first time my plex has "misread" but i didn't suspect it though (must have been a software update or something hmmm)
is there any hope for my plextor, or must i get used to the thought that my toshiba will have to do all the reading?
