He lives (or own? ) in a beautiful island in the west coast and shipping to his island can cost half the price.
LOL! Nope I don't own Honolulu, Hawaii I just live here. Today I actually got a I/O MAGIC 16x drive from OFFICE DEPOT near my office. I read the box to make sure it said 2.4x speed for DL. I just opened up the box and on the drive itself it does say BENQ 1620, firmware B7C9, manufacture date is August 2004. I'm a happy camper right now. I won't have time to test the drive because I have to reinstall a new mobo into one of my pc's. Hopefully I'll get to play with the drive sometime this weekend. I purchased some MAXELL DVD+R 8x speed discs from OFFICE DEPOT sale not bad for $5.97 for a 15 pack spindle.
I got OFFICE DEPOT to match price COMPUSA but they would only honor the $10.00 instant rebate but they will honor the instant rebate of CIRCUIT CITY as well. I have to take in the CIRCUIT CITY ad tomorrow and they will give me another instant rebate of $20.00. The drive will only cost me $ 73.92 after the price matching from both stores. If I ordered the BENQ from Newegg.com it would cost me $ 95.00 because shipping to HAWAII is expensive. That is the reason why I held out to see if I could actually get a I/O MAGIC 16x drive without having to pay high shipping costs.
To Zevia thanks for the advice on what to look for on the I/O MAGIC box!
