I need a new DVD reader!

I think my LiteOn SOHD-16P9S is dying: seems it wont read a lot of DVD and so i’m looking for a new (better, if possible) SATA DVD reader / ripper.

In the LiteOnIT official site, the only SATA reader is the DH-16D2S: is it a good choice? For reading (and only for reading), should i stay with LiteOn or changing brand?

I’ve bought the DH-16D2S but it has a ATAPI OEM firmware.
Do you know if there is and where i can download a branded firmware?

I think this reader is not a great buy…
Reading is very very slow: where can i found a modded firmware or a patcher to unlock read speeds?
