I love my 3500a!

Hello, I’m a total noob to dvd burning! I just bought an nec 3500a based on what I’ve read here about it. I burnt a few discs with it, even with the stock 2.16 firmware it burns my tdk dvd+rs @ 8x when they say 4x. So far that’s the only type of media I’ve burnt in it, they’re made by ricoh. I bought a 50 spindle of taiyo yuden discs from best buy cause they had a good deal on them. They were labled fuji 8x dvd+r media, and it looks like some of you can get 12x out of them. I would like to try 12x burning for both the tdk media (will probably make a coaster) and the taiyo yuden. What firmware is best for this? I don’t care about bit setting cause nero does that for me. I’ve read about liggy’s and herrie’s, and even the mad dog firmware. I’m not sure what one has the 12x for theese discs. Im including the info on both types of media from dvd identifier. Any help will be appreciated.

using liggy’s beta f/w, i believe u can burn the YUDEN000-T02 at 16X aswell as the RICOHJPN-R01 at 12X with pretty impressive results. That said, it’s only a beta, and only use it if u dont mind making coasters

Yeah after reading the entire liggy’s firmware thread I decided to try and flash to the beta 7 firmware. The problem being the links to any of the utilities to flash with seem to be down. I would really love to be able to burn the rest of these tdks @ 12x. I have something I wanted to burn tonight too. I don’t know what’s up with that but I think the whole site is down for the flashing utils. I don’t want to be a PITA on my first day here I would love to flash this thing tonight, I have the bin file allready extracted, just need a tool! Maybe drop me a pm and if you’re interested in e-mailing it to me? Maybe I’m just stupid and can’t figure out how to find it  .

With Herrie´s 2.17 firmware you will be able to burn your TY T02 at 12x and RICOHJPNR01 at 8.

Remember, Liggy´s firmware is still a beta (experimental).

Ligg’s Uniflash tool here http://uniflash.cdfreaks.com/

BTW, wellcome here

FearFactory, the link worked today, but they never work when you want them to. Ok, I flashed to the liggy beta 7 firmware with the win32gui flasher. Ill post the results of my burns in the liggy’s firmware thread. Thanks guys!

Deer Slayer, could you post the complete MID of those T02 discs? Because normally, you should be able to write TY 8x DVD+R discs (YUDEN000T02) at 16x speed with the ND-3500 2.16 stock firmware.

This is a complete MID of a TY 8x DVD+R discs that can be burned at 16x speed with stock firmware:

01 02 00 00 A1 0F 02 00 00 03 00 00 00 26 05 3F .............&.?
00 00 00 00 00 00 03 59 55 44 45 4E 30 30 30 54 .......YUDEN000T
30 32 00 38 23 54 37 10 02 4E 72 02 8C 63 16 16 02.8#T7..Nr..c..
0B 0B 0A 0A 01 19 1B 0C 0C 0C 0D 01 00 00 00 00 ................

I might have been able to burn the discs at 12 or 16x but I haven’t tried yet. The main reason for the flash was 12x on the tdk media. It works but not that great, only plays good on my set top player. That and I wanted a better 8x burn out of them which is perfect with the beta7.

The TY discs should give you good results even if you burn them at 16x speed, no modified firmware needed. Check out the burn speed and quality thread for examples.

When I was reading the liggy’s firmware thread, I read about the dvd book type setting counter. How does this work, every time you burn a disc with dvd-rom bitsetting the counter changes? Or does it only change when you change back to dvd+r then back again to dvd-rom? So does this mean with the stock firmware you can only burn 244 dvd+r discs with dvd-rom booktype? Either way it’s a load of crap and I must bow to the master liggy for thwarting such a bogus attempt at hosing the consumer  . Thank you liggy for protecting my investment in this fine quality burner.

I am pretty sure it only counts when you change it back and forth. But with Liggys fw you do not need to worry about that as its modifed Maddog FW I do beleive which does not use any counter.

I have those discs and burn them at 16x with no problems

I have burned 9 tdk discs with my nec3500a, not one coaster. The 12x burn wasn’t great but it’s readable without errors on some things. All the 8x burns were good, and the firmware made for a little faster burn. More consistant speed throughout the burn, better kprobe scans with my dvd-rom. Speaking of kprobe, why is a liteon burner the only thing that can do it right? The liteon 832s wouldn’t burn this media @ 8x for the life of it, tried a few different firmwares. It was my friend’s burner, he accidently flashed it with the wrong firmware! We tried to flash it back, it flashed but it only made coasters after that. We were frustrated with it so it went back to best buy. Wasted 6 discs on that bastard :Z , but I sure learned a lot.

I still find my 2510 better than my 3500… Better reader and faster burner.
Im using the 2.17 herrie. I hope there the 3500 will support media speed as 2510 2.16 firmware do soon so i can start using it
