I Hope My Drive Is Not Stuffed!

My drive is now refusing to finish writing a disc! When i use nero, the recording process goes fine all the way until the last 3 %, then the speed drops down to like 4x, then says there is an error finishing track or something. WHats wrong?! Is there an incompatibility? I ask because for the whole morning, my drive was working flawlessly, until i switched media!!
If there IS AN INCOMPATIBILITY, what is meant to happen? this is because the burning process goes withouth a hitch until 97%!!!

Seems to me like the problem is with the media you used. First try some other (read: quality) media and report back.

Funny thing is that i have used that media before! (TDK) and TDK is quite reliable aren’t they?

It’s too obvious, eh? Maybe? Never seen it happen like this, you only hear the stories.

Check out 2. and 3.

I find this REALLY weird. This is because i can still read with the drive fine!!! and fast too with a max of 48X in CD Speed with a perfect graph! I will try to find my CDROM laser cleaning disc, but so far it has taken over 2 hours nd still cant seem to find the bloody thing.

I think FutureProof was agreeing with GameFreak.

I didn’t understand too much of the detail, but both FP’s linked articles seem to suggest dodgy media.

#10

nahh i seriously doubt its the media. Anyway thanx to all, but i just returned my TDK back to their TDK head office in AUS and HOPEFULLY getting it replaced(maybe with newer model :P) to save all my troubles. Gonna take 1-2 weeks for me to get something back though…bummer…:frowning:

#11

The servo is stuffed; probably got waxed in a brownout. The tech notes that FP pointed too went some of the way towards outlining possible problems.

#12

Hi it is me again. guess what?

MY DRIVE IS STUFFED AGAIN

I am EXTREMELY PISSED OFF NOW. I have no idea how it happened, as thatwas the only cd i burnt ALL DAY, so i couldnt have toasted the laser or drive mechanics, and i do not flog my drive at all. it is the same mesage SPINDLE SERVO FAILURE and occurs between the 90 - 99% burning process. Any i deas? i have switched media, but doesnt help.

#13

hmm… i just uninstalled my SECONDARY IDE controller, restarted winXP, and it seems that i can burn cds again…weird…anyway i am gonna scream at TDK AUS tomorrow for giving me yet another dud cd burner and hoperfully buy a good ASUS or LiteON this weekend. Maybe a DVD writer if i have the $$:cop:

Where abouts is AUS do u live in Futureproof? I live in Sydney, and i think i might go to a computer market to buy a CDRW drive. (if u have heard of it, i go to North Rocks Westfield on Sundays in Sydney)
