I'm new here, as you can probably tell, and have spent the last hour or so searching the web and forums to try to find an answer to my problem. Actually, I'm new to DVDs in general - I've just built a PC for a friend, and it's the first one I've done with a DVD. I had nothing to test it with, but hadn't thought it might not work - it read CDs happily enough. Here's the specs:
Sony DW-U18A DVD and CRX230E CD
Asus A7N8X-X mobo
512MB Crucial PC2700
Windows XP Home SP1 (fully patched)
Nero 6 OEM suite 1 (not tried updating this yet).
He complained he couldn't play DVDs - I thought maybe I'd bust it by using the LtnRPC utility without a DVD in it, guess I shouldn't mess with stuff I don't really understand... Anyway, I went round today and just tried a normal region 2 pre-recorded DVD. Windows MP9 came up with an error to say it didn't have a decoder, and Nero Showtime was similar. I checked the region setting both in the standard Windows properties box and LtnRPC, all seemed hunky-dory.
This is a bit embarrassing, as I'm supposed to be the PC expert!!! Anyone got any clues for me? I'm not really a duffer (although I do tend to poke things before I think), I just don't know anything about DVDs!
