I CANNOT BURN DUAL LAYER DVDS ANYMORE, with no program at all!

[qanda]This thread is about the Asus SDRW-0806T-D. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hello, community! I tried to find the rules i should follow in order not to be banned, but didn’t find much of the guides i needed.

What i do need, however, is your desperate help, because i’m at my wit’s end! I’ve been struggling with this for days and no person could actually tell me what might be wrong, so i turned to this community.

Here is my problem. I have several images that take a lot of space on my hard drive and want them moved to a dvd. Each of the images is like 6 or 7 Gigs large, so for that, i obviously turned to Dual Layer DVDs.

I own a laptop who does not write Cds so i use an external writer, an ASUS external Slim DVD Burner SDRW-0806T-D , to be exact.

I have been burning Dual Layer DVDs before, with the same writer, the same program and using the same media. So it DID work before!

Now what happens is I tried 2 Verbatim DL and 1 TDK DL and the same error appears. I simply cannot burn the images whatsoever! I tried it with Nero, I tried it with MagicISO, I tried it with ImgBurn and they all react the same.

ImgBurn tells me “Disc Not Empty”, as soon as i pop the DL DVD in the tray, Nero tells me “TheDisc Is Not Writable” and MagicISO says “Non-Blank DVD+R Media is not supported”. And every program ejects my DVD, when it’s obvious i have not been writing anything on them, I just bought them and they’re not cheap in my country, either.

Now, if anyone can help me and needs some detailed information on this error that’s driving me nuts, i have 2 Nero Info Tool logs and several captures of the errors, but don’t know how to post them so that i don’t break the forum rules.

I BEG YOU TO HELP ME, I’M SIMPLY GOING NUTS NOT KNOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WHAT SHOULD BE FIXED!
PLEASE, HELP ME!

Thank you so much, in advance!
Mike.

Hi AngryBeaver and welcome to CD Freaks

There’s no problems about posting a log here; just copy and paste the text into a post. If you can, add the following tags immediately before and immediately after the log text:
Before: [co_de]
After: [/co_de]
…but removing the underscore marks in both so the word reads “code” (I can’t show you the exact word because the forum will interpret the tags here).

I should say that we can’t help you with burning illegally distributed movies, games, or software; so the log would have to be concerning a title you own.

My guess is the MagicISO is involved, unless you have Alcohol and/or Daemon Tools installed too?

Some virtual drive/emulation software can “hide” the disc type from the burning software, basically making it think that the disc is not blank.

Have a look in MagicISO’s options and see if there’s anything in there that pertains to that.

Alternatively, if you have Alcohol/Daemon Tools installed, I can tell you what settings to chenge there, too.

An InfoTool log would be excellent :D…and welcome to CDF!

Thank you guys! I really appreciate the replies. Yes, i do have Daemon Tools installed, but i had it even when i could burn dual layers, only that it was another version of it, i guess.

Arachne, I would surely appreciate if you told me what settings i should change!

Now here is the log, hope i’ll be posting it correctly…

See if this helps: go into Daemon Tools’ settings, and look for an option called “Hide CDR media” or similar - disable that option.

If that doesn’t work, turn off all emulation options in Daemon Tools completely.

If you’ve updated your DT to the newest version or something, the settings could have returned to default.

#6

Arachne, i will try that right now and see if it helps getting me out of this hell.

I have the free version of Daemon Tools, didn’t stumble upon its settings too much, though.

Thank you again for your quick reply, buddy!

#7

Good luck!!

#8

Arachne, i didn’t find the “Hide CDR media”, and eventually turned off all emulation. It did not work. Then i exit Daemon Tools completely and tried it again. Still to no avail.

MagicISO says “Disc is not blank” and ImgBurn says “Disc Not Empty”.

What should i do?? Maybe change some settings in either Nero (which ejects my disc saying “The disc is not writable” or in MagicISO?

I should mention my Daemon is version “Daemon Tools Lite (4.12.3)” and my Magic ISO is version 5.2

I’m really at my wit’s end!

PLEASE HELP!!!

#9

That’s a shame :(…I still think one of the two softwares is the culprit.

First have a look in MagicISO’s settings - or can you try disabling that completely?

You might try uninstalling DT - BUT - Google for how to remove it completely, as there’s bits that may be left behind. This is a last ditch resort though, as these softwares have a nasty habit of leaving the odd driver behind that’s only sorted with a complete OS reinstall

#10

Guys, do you think it might be a problem with the driver itself? I read something about firmware update but can’t find that for my Asus model.

I will post another log, the “NERO DUAL LAYER LOG” i’ve done last night, maybe you’ll discover some culprits there. Now i disabled the virtual drives of Daemon Tools, however, they appear in this log as I did this last night.

I’m sorry if i’m such a pain in the neck, but really, i cannot concentrate on anything else till’ I get this done.

Well, the log says DMA is enabled for all your drives, so that’s good.

Only thing that isn’t good, is what we know already: some piece of software is interfering with Nero’s ability to see blank discs as blank.

#12

Have you thought about completely uninstalling one at a time, first Daemon Tools, then try again & if that doesn’t work, MagicISO, then try again? Here are a couple of guides regarding using ImgBurn after they are gone.

Well, buddy, here I am again!

I uninstalled MagicIso, ImgBurn, uninstalled Daemon Tools completely, i uninstalled some other burning or emulating drives softs, I defragmented my HD, i triple cleaned the registry, restarted the PC each time to check for left overs in the registry, and finally I only left NERO alive. And guess what, SAME DAMN THING! :a What could possibly be wrong???
I just burned a data CD with Nero with absolutely no problem, but when i try again and again burning that damn DL, NADA! I am practically going CRAZY!

Here it is:

SORRY IF IMAGE IS TOO BIG, I uploaded it from my computer and don’t know how to resize it.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!

#14

I’m seriously out of ideas apart from a clean OS install

Hang in there and maybe one of our other members has any ideas.

Edit: Just to make sure, the speed of your DL discs is supported by your drive, right?

This is one reason why I will never, ever put that kind of software on either of my PCs. :frowning:

#15

You haven’t by any chance installed a game that has Starforce or Tages protection on it? The drivers associated with those protection schemes have been known to cause some problems with optical drives, especially Starforce.

#16

If it was me I’d uninstall ner0 (you can always re-install later),and just use IMGburn…hope it helps
Just make sure to use the nero clean tool to properly uninstall it…Good luck!

#17

Yes, it seems to be supported. I’ve done it before.

Could Nero be the problem? Should i uninstall it? Or what should i do? Could the driver of the Asus be the problem?

I’m soon going to smack my head lol! Just smoked 2 packs of cigs and that doesn’t help either!

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply, Arachne !

If anyone else has any suggestion, I am begging you… !!!

#18

Kerry56, no, i don’t have any of those, never had them.

t0nee1, thank you for the suggestion, i will try that. Hope it helps or i am straight goin’ to the loony house.

Thanks, you guys!

#19

Thank you for your support, guys, but i’m officially ##cked!
Uninstalled Nero with that clean tool t0nee1 suggested, reinstalled ImgBurn, and here it is:

There’s obviously no other solution than to throw away right to the garbage this damn Asus piece of crap.

Thanks again for your time, guys.

#20

Why don’t you try the Verbatim DVD+R DL media instead of the RITEKs …
You did say you used them with Ner0, so try them with IMGburn…
