ftp = file transfer protocol
http = hypertext transfer protocol
ftp for ftp-servers, when you want to make files available
http (mainly) for the world wide web, when you want to make html-files available
ftp is for files, so more efficient when downloading big files, but http works almost as good as well!
thanks very much
different ports, too, usually
