hey, I know this thread is a bit out of date but it's the only piece of information that I can find on how to upgrade an HP 7500e CD-writer to an 8100.
I've got this external hp 7500 plus that uses a parallel cable but I just can't figure out how to update the firmware.
I downloaded the sony crx100 1.0n firmware but unfortunately can't get it to work because to run it you have to select which IDE channel your cd-writer is on but mine is on the parallel port.
Any help would be really appreciated because I'm dead sick of making coasters out of my cds (I keep going over the 78.3 minute limit of my hp 7500). 4x speed would also be a nice step up from 2x.
In the first message on this thread, RaveRod says that he turned his external 7500 into an internal 8100... I can't quite suss out whether he means that his computer now thinks that it's internal or if he means he actually took the cover off and stuck the thing inside his comptuer? Anyone know what or how he did it?
