How to retrieve corrupted photos on data DVD?

I burned some high quality photos to a DVD a few months ago, and now when I try to copy the files to my new external hardrive, I notice some of the files won’t copy, and freeze up windows. Sometimes a warning comes up says, there is a I/O problem, or cycle redundancy error, other times it just freezes on one file, while others copy fine. I am worried because about 20% of my pictures are still on the discs, and I want them on my drive where they are safe.

My question is what can I do to retrieve the corrupted files?

Thanks

Try the disc in another DVD drive.

@ sandia911,

With the limited information provided in your above #1 postings it appears that there are Cyclic Redundancy Check Read/Write Errors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check) on the DVD Media Disk that you used to record the “some high quality photos”.

The most like cause of the Cyclic Redundancy Check Read/Write Errors is that poor quality problematic DVD Media was used to record the “some high quality photos”.

Suggest trying the ISOPuzzel (http://www.geocities.com/marsoupilamis/DocEnglish.htm) software program and see if the ISOPuzzel software program can help you retrieve the “some high quality photos” from the DVD Media Disk that has the Cyclic Redundancy Check Read/Write Errors.

In the future to avoid Cyclic Redundancy Check Read/Write Errors suggest only using known proven high quality error free Media such a Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim Media which has an excellent track history of consistently producing quality error free results.
