How to remove the Region Coding from the SONY DW-Q58A on a Dell laptop

Hi Folks,
I would be very appreciative if someone could point me in the right direction. I watch both Region 1 and 2 DVDs on the Sony DW-Q58A DVD player on my Dell XPS M140 laptop. However, I am now down to my last region code change allowed and was wondering if there was anyway to reset the Region Code Change Counter or to remove the region code altogether. I have read on some forums that the only way to do this is to download some firmware but I don’t know what or where to get the download from or whether this was the only way to do it.

I watch a lot of British TV on DVD that you can’t get over here in the US. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

You don’t need different firmware i don’t think. Use LtnRPC tool. I know your drive is a Sony but it’s really a Lite-On. Here you go > http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/f-q-liteon-optical-drives-revised-28-april-2007-a-109986/#adv-rpc1

No problem. Glad it worked ok for you. I actually have that drive in my Sony lappy. I rarely use it though with all the desktop and external drives i have.

Also a word of advice…if the firmware you are using works for the media you use, don’t flash it with a different one. Seems some people have dead drives after flashing for some reason. I have never flashed mine.
