When overburning, the CD writer will keep writing until 1. the end of the disc has been reached or 2 the disc has been written completely. If the overburncapacity of the disc is smaller than the amount of data + leadout, an error will be generated. Different discs have different capacities; you have to do some testing to find out what the maximum capacity of a disc is.
When an overburned disc works fine, despite of an error message, you can use the disc for as longs as it lasts (should be the same as with a standard (identical) disc)). The only thing is, that some players (dvd, cd) can get into trouble when using a disc without a proper lead-out. If that'd happen, you always can make a new (good) copy of the same disc and use it there.
